High blood pressure or hypertension is a leading cause of many cardiovascular diseases. It occurs when the force of the blood against the artery walls is too high. According to the World Health Organization, about "63% of total deaths in India are due to noncommunicable diseases, of which 27% are attributed to cardiovascular disease."
